Rod and Staff Math

Rod and Staff Math is published for use in Amish and Mennonite schools but is also used my many homeschoolers. I know, the name sounds harsh, the texts look boring and repetitive but the math is good and solid.

So far we have used their first, second and fourth grade texts and I am very happy with the results.

Here are samples of their math. I generally order through their 800 number in Kentucky. Everyone is so nice.

First grade covers numbers to 100, addition/subtraction within 10. The first unit is great for kindergarten.

Second grade covers addition/subtraction within 20.

Fourth grade covers multiplication/division and fraction work.

What I like best about this math is that there are clear descriptions that are easily made into notebooking pages for later reference. And there is plenty of review. Actually there is more work and review than you will probably ever use but its there if you need it.

The word problems may be a sticking point for some secular families as they feature things like counting Bibles.

Over all it is a solid program and filled in the gaps left by Singapore for my oldest.
