Extra Activities

Outside activities can take up time and money. We try to limit to one activity per child. Last spring we found inexpensive gymnastic classes and we had planned to continue those into fall but they raised the price to as much as many other classes that we can take locally.

So we had decisions to make. Did we stay with gymnastics class even though the girls were not that good? Did we find something else for them to be involved in? What should we do?

Well, we came across an opportunity for horse riding lessons. One riding lesson cost about the same as 4 gymnastics lessons but we have a daughter who loves horses. We talked to our older daughter and she said that the only thing she wanted to do was 4-H. Which has a minimal monetary investment.

So we decided that we would do 2 horse back riding lessons per month for one child and the other gets to do projects for 4-H.

I am hoping that this works well and the first month or so of lessons will be more to see if she really wants to get involved in horses or if she just likes to look at them.

I agree with the idea of 1 activity per child. It can be so expensive to do things outside the home. Our son does Taekwondo 3 days a week. The price is reasonable for the lessons. It gets him out of the house and away from his ONLY teacher (me).

Horseback riding lessons are so much fun! I hope your daughter enjoys them very much. :)
