Weekly Check-in January 23, 2009

Another good week.

Friday:
We learned about penguins at co-op and did several experiments and figured out what songs we will sing at the local nursing homes in February.

First Grade:

Phonics--finished up the section on long vowels sounds in Rod and Staff Reading 1 Unit 2

Math--Addition within 6, we made addition ladders for the numbers 1 to 6, and worked in both the Singapore and Rod and Staff texts on addition within this number and number bonds.

Lapbook--Ladybugs. We are using the thematic unit from this site: http://www.schoolexpress.com/ and I made booklets from the templates at homeschoolshare. It is a bit slow but OK.

Third Grade:

History--Japan

Science--finishing up the respiratory system

Math--working on multiplication and division review

Latin--declensions and I put together the beginnings of a lapbook about the important things in our studies. I made booklets on:

What is a noun?
Types of nouns
Gender of nouns
Vocabulary list A
First Declension Chants
First Declension Clues

Lapbook--Rabbits. We worked on the sections about wild rabbits, pikas and hares. This lapbook is really a lot of fun and I think it is going to turn out so cute.

Hope you had a great week.

Looks like a good week. I like the idea of making a Latin lapbook.
