Planning the New Year

Every year about this time, I start thinking about the following school year. I analyze what is working and has not worked for us over the last twelve months and decide what direction we want to go in over the next eighteen months.

What did not work:

Ruth Heller's grammar picture books with the charts and worksheets I made.
WISE guide spelling lists

What has worked:

Singapore math
Math in My World
Rod and Staff Reading 1
Story of the World
Lapbooks
Copywork
Writing prompts
Minimus Latin

So what are we looking at for January?

First Grade
Rod and Staff Reading 1 Unit 2 (spring) and Unit 3 (summer)
Rod and Staff Math 1 (for review)
Singapore 1a
Copywork
Lapbooks to explore American Girl books, animals and other topics

Third Grade
Singapore 3b with extra practice book
Writing prompts
Lively Latin
Story of the World 3 with coloring pages and maps
Lapbooks to explore American Girl books, animals and other topics

What about Second and Fourth grade? What am I thinking about for that?

Second Grade:

Rod and Staff Reading 1 Units 4 and 5, Reading 2
Rod and Staff Spelling 2
Rod and Staff Preparing to Build English 2
Singapore Math 1b and 2a with extra practice
Copywork/writing prompts
Lapbooks
She would also like to learn French.

Fourth Grade:

Singapore Math 4a and 4b with Math in My World for review
Lively Latin
Story of the World 3 and 4
Writing prompts (work into descriptive writing)
Lapbooks
Spanish workbook?

This is what I am thinking of doing. But let's see how things go.
