Second Week of February

It's hard to believe that February is half over. This was another good week and I continue to be happy with the changes I have made to our school day. Circle time as a framework for our days works very well and allows me to introduce topics in a fun way. Seatwork is kept to a minimum and review is done on their own with their personalized review books.

Friday:

We had our playdate at a local children's science museum and had a lot of fun. Then we did our Friday Enrichment Club and read books about Valentine's Day and did some simple crafts. Afterwards we picked out books.

Monday to Thursday were our normal school days and they went well.

Rhythmic drill--subtraction tables for 9, 8, 7 and 6.

Math exploration--using rod diagrams to find answers to problems as explained in the text of Singapore Math 3a. My little one worked on less, more and what is the difference using small objects.

Phonics--We introduced the sounds for ai and ay and wrote up lists for the sounds of th and ee.

Story--This week we read the fable, "The Milkmaid and the Pail."

Copywork--sentences for ai and ay as well as sentences that she composed for "The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse."

Math--my youngest worked in Earlybird 2a on less and more. My oldest worked on using rod diagrams to solve math problems in the workbook of Singapore Math 3a which included 2 step word problems.

Form Drawing on Monday and we did the first form in the Donna Simmon's book. We will probably just work our way through the book.

On Tuesday, my oldest composed her version of "The Milkmaid and the Pail." On Wednesday and Thursday she illustrated it.

We started the second chapter of Minimus this week and we learned all about gender and making sure that your noun and adjectives have the correct genders.

On Thursday we did the 15th story in McCall-Harby's Test Lessons in Reading.

At bedtime, we are continuing to read through the Felicity books. We have also been reading Elsa Beskow and Jan Brett books. My girls have been listening to Skippyjon Jones books on their own.

We did some painting on Tuesday.

It was a good week and we had fun.
