10-19-2007 Weekly Update

This was the first week of school after vacation. It went well and we are happy with the results but I also feel like our school is ready for a change. Some things haven't been working well while others are. But more on that later.

My Oldest:

Copywork this week was taken from Bunny Rabbit's Diary which is what her KISS grammar lessons are drawn from.

Math was simple and about capacity. We had lots of fun finding out how many liters our bucket and basin would hold.

We did two KISS grammar lessons about finding subject and verbs and one day in Easy Grammar.

We worked with the phonogram "qu" for Spell to Write and Read.

We also learned about hares, turkeys and starfish.

My youngest:

Forgot all the penmanship I had taught her so we worked on lines, curves and the first few letters of the alphabet again.

Singapore Earlybird was all about story order.

Rod and Staff Reading I is going well. We worked on Lesson 3 and added in the phonics workbook again. We will continue Lesson 3 next week.

We also worked on speech. It was initial "D" sounds this week.

On Thursday, we went to the Children's Museum. We skipped the Haunted House, checked out the awesome exhibit on Robotics, dug for dinos, ran through nature tunnels, sailed boats through the locks and dug for dinos some more.

It was a good week and later I will start posting thoughts on our changes.

Thanks for stopping by. I just did a post about what we are changing for science and history. I still plan on using parts of Tapestry of Grace but am going to alternate science and history weeks and use the American Girl books as well.
