Fuse Bead Activities--How Fun!

A friend of mine told me about these great beads that you have the kids lay out on pegboards and then you iron them and come out with these great little projects. You can make coasters, shapes and words using these beads. They are also recommended for hyper children since it allows the child to be creative while sitting still so the beads don't fall over. My friend said that they have had hours upon hours of fun with these at her house and it did keep my oldest active daughter busy and quiet for a long time.

So with the coming bad weather we went out and bought some to keep us busy. We found ours at Hobby Lobby but they are probably available at just about any craft store. We bought a large jar of 15,000 beads, 2 kits with pegboards and beads and more pegboards. I bought some craft boxes to sort the beads by color which is a great activity for small children as well.

Prices on the beads range from $3.50 for a 4 pegboards to $9.99 for 15,000 beads. So it is reasonably priced. There are also starter kits out there with 8500 beads and 4 pegboards for between $7 to $9. And there are small kits with 2 to 4 pegboards and a few hundred beads for $3 to $5. So it is a reasonable investment for hour of fun.

Now what do you do with the beads once you have them? First you let the kids make their own designs on the pegboards. There are tons of shapes (square, heart, pony, cat etc.) and then you iron them on both sides with this special paper included with the pegboards. The beads then fuse together.
