Finding Peace in Homeschooling

Now that we are four years into our homeschooling journey we are finally finding peace with our curriculum and method choices. I am so happy that we decided to start playing with methods while my dd was in preschool. We tried Charlotte Mason, Waldorf, Unschooling, Textbooks, Sonlight and Classical. Classical has been the method that fits our needs best.

We use the classical framework but use curriculum that suits us rather than something that is dictated by others. We were introduced to classical through the Well Trained Mind but it was too unbending for us. We then incorporated some of Teaching the Trivium ideas as well as The Latin Centered Curriculum. And we have evolved into our own happy medium.

It feels good to have found a peaceful flow that is not too stringent and yet not too free. We like having textbooks for math, science and phonics. We love reading real books about history and real literature. We also like an asian influence in our curriculum choices such as singapore math, AlAbacus, and Kumon workbooks. If anything we are probably an Asian influenced Christian Classical home.

But finding peace with our homeschool is more than coming to terms with curriculum and methods but about where God leads you in life and accepting what he wants you to do. And that is one of the best things you can do for yourself. Accept and rejoice in the tasks God has for you and you will have a happy heart.
